San Diego Asian Film Festival 2008

A talented comedian, and internet celebrity with one of YouTube’s most subscribed channels, Christine Gambito, better known by her online name as HAPPY SLIP, has an international following of her online comedy sketches, in which she impersonates members of her Filipino American family.

Gambito's video Mixed Nuts was nominated for the 2006 YouTube Video Awards for Best Comedy, ultimately winning second place, and recently, she was appointed ambassador for Philippine tourism. Not bad for a woman who performs, shoots, and edits her sketches entirely by herself! So, where does HAPPY SLIP come from, you may ask?

“As a child, my Filipino mom would always remind me to wear a half-slip with skirts. However, the way she would pronounce the phrase was misleading: "Your hap e-slip! Be sure to wear your hap e-slip!" So I naturally went around calling the thing a 'happy slip,' until friends at school corrected me by asking if I had a 'sad slip' as well.” Hear more about HAPPY SLIP, with Gambito in-person to share her personal journey, how she usurped conventional Hollywood channels to become a superstar in this comedic presentation of Gambito’s videos and lively discussion.
