San Diego Asian Film Festival 2008

It's a day as ordinary as any other could be. In Los Angeles, elderly couple Eddie and Estelle shop for their cemetery plots. Williams, a New York vagrant and religious fanatic, stumbles into the nearby church to speak with his only confidante, Father Robinson. In Paris, brothers Sam and Henri philosophize whimsically about life. And in a high-rise Hong Kong apartment, Queenie and Soo-Lin try desperately to cope with one unsuccessful pregnancy attempt after another.

Then the news hits: the fatal solar flare is on its way.

Eddie hides the news from Estelle to protect her, as he has done their whole marriage. William tries to reconcile his difference with Father Robinson in Earth's final moments. Amidst the chaos, the Parisian brothers revel in the futility of humanity. And in Hong Kong, Soo-Lin races home to spend hr final moments with Queenie.

Despite Eddie's efforts, Estelle confesses to hearing the news. For the first time, Eddie realizes they can face this together. William apologizes to Father Robinson - his biological son - for deserting him, long ago. But Father Robinson cannot forgive, and simply walks away. In Paris, Henri and Sam share a sentimental moment; a first, without any glib quips. And in Hong Kong, Soo-Lin makes it home to discover that Queenie has taken the pregnancy test without her. For the first time, the test is positive. They'll be a family, wither it's for 50 years or only 50 seconds.
